A "double click" here means two clicks less than 500 ms apart. If you see double registrations from single presses, your switch may be wearing out.

How to interpret the results

  • Double clicks — pairs of clicks under 500 ms apart. When testing deliberately, this counts your intentional double-clicks. When single-clicking slowly, any count here indicates unintended double registration — the classic failing-switch symptom.
  • Avg / fastest / slowest interval — the rhythm of your clicking. Wildly inconsistent intervals at a steady pace can also point to a worn switch.
  • CPS — clicks per second since your first click in this session.

Single click registering twice?

The usual cause is switch bounce: the mechanical switch in the mouse button wears and makes extra contact. Try a different USB port and a different surface first to rule out software; if double registration persists, the switch needs replacement or the mouse needs replacing. Optical switches (common in newer gaming mice) are far less prone to this.

Frequently asked questions

What is this double-click test for?

Two things: measuring how fast you can double-click, and — more importantly — detecting a worn mouse switch that registers two clicks from one press.

What counts as a double click here?

Two clicks less than 500 ms apart. Windows' own double-click threshold defaults to 500 ms, which is why this tool uses the same window.

My mouse double-clicks when I single-click. What's wrong?

Usually switch bounce: the mechanical switch is worn and makes extra electrical contact. Rule out software (try another port/PC), then replace the switch or the mouse. Optical-switch mice rarely develop this.

Can this test damage my mouse?

No. Clicking is what the switch is built for — the test only records events.

Why is my CPS lower than in games?

Games often count button-down events differently, and some players use drag-clicking or butterfly-clicking techniques. This tool counts standard clicks.

Does the test work with a touchpad?

It records clicks from any pointing device, but the double-click diagnosis is aimed at physical mouse buttons.
